DeLorean to start application process

If you missed the opportunity to purchase a DeLorean in 1981, well, you're in luck. DeLorean Motor Company, the heir to a hefty stash of vintage DeLorean parts and the coveted name, will start to assemble and sell the iconic stainless DMC-12 in 2017. DeLorean Motor Company has been servicing and restoring cars outside of Houston for nearly a decade.

The initial run is expected to be around 350 units over a 6-year period. It will be comprised of a fair number of NOS parts from the original cars that have been warehoused for some 30 years – including the stainless body. Although no engine or drivetrains have been announced, it's been rumored the DMC-12 might be running a GM-based configuration.

You can't exactly stroll onto a DeLorean lot with a roll of hundred dollar bills to purchase one though. Although the company hasn’t even released pricing yet, the application process opened this past Monday. Various media outlets are reporting the DMC-12 will ring up in the $100,000 range. Adding a flux capacitor from the option list is expected to tack on thousands more.
