New AC Cobra 378

Back in September, AC Heritage announced it would be building a limited run of 1962-spec Cobras with 260-cubic-inch V8s. Using original tooling and production methods, these ACs would be a gold standard in replicas. The catch – AC announced only nine examples would be built.

AC Heritage must have been inundated with requests, because they just announced they would be producing another run of Cobras. This new model, the Cobra 378, named for its displacement, will be slightly modernized mechanically and won’t be limited in production. The power plant, a 6.2 for you liter guys, will be available in a naturally aspirated version making 440 bhp, or a supercharged version making 550 bhp. An ECU, power brakes, power steering, modern transmissions and optional air conditioning were included to make the 378 daily drivable, if you live somewhere warmer than we do.

AC plans to have cars in U.K. customers’ hands by February or March, but sales in the U.S. are not possible until the terms of the Low Volume Motor Vehicle Manufacturers Act are finalized. The 378 will be sold in the states as the Autokraft MkIV, and will cost around $100,000.
