Aston Martin to Offer DB4 GT Continuation

Aston Martin DB4 GT Continuation

Aston Martin joins the ranks of manufacturers offering ultra-limited production continuation cars with a new track-only DB4 GT continuation.

The Aston Martin DB4 GT was built from 1959 to 1963 as a competition version of the successful DB4. Changes to the DB4 body included thinner-gauge aluminum bodywork, shortened wheelbase and covered headlights. The 3.7-liter DOHC straight six boasted 240 hp in stock DB4 trim but was massaged a bit for GT trim. Available in 3.7- and 3.8-liter displacements, the GT engine featured dual distributors, a reworked head with two spark plugs per cylinder and increased compression, and the triple Weber carburetors replaced the original SU units. The improvements to the DB4 in GT trim were good for 340 hp and a 6.1-second 0-60 mph time, some three seconds better than the standard DB4. Of the 75 total DB4 GT cars produced, only eight were lightweight models. Aston reports that most of these eight survive today with a value of nearly $3.8 million.

To honor the DB4 GT, a series of 25 lightweight, track-only cars will be produced by Aston Martin Works, the company’s historic facility. GT continuation cars will have chassis numbers that follow the last original produced, Chassis 0202R. Aston claims the car will be built with a mixture of old craftsmanship and modern processes to create an authentic car with improved performance and safety. The GT will feature the same lightweight aluminum bodywork over its tubular frame and the same straight six engine in GT configuration. Buyers of the GT continuation cars will be able to join Aston Martin’s track program, which allows members access to various driving circuits and driving lessons from Aston’s drivers.

DB4 GT continuation cars will start delivery in late 2017. Aston did not release any figures formally, but it is rumored that continuation cars will have a £1.5 million price tag, or around $1.9 million.
