AC Cars Debuts Electric Series 4

AC Cars of Norfolk, England has added a new big-block style Cobra to its lineup of reborn Cobras — and this one’s electric. The new Series 4 Electric follows in line with AC’s existing Le Mans Electric, a 12-unit series of electrified 289 cars fit with Le Mans-style hardtops. The new Series 4 is based on the AC’s gasoline-powered 378 Superblower Cobra, modified with an electric motor and 54 KWh battery.

Details are slim on AC’s new project, but we’re told the new Series 4 will be a strong combination of performance and specification. AC has partnered with Falcon Electric on the project, a U.K.-based EV conversion specialist, but they have yet to announce details on what electric motor will be used. Target power numbers have been released though, and AC plans on hitting 460 kW with 1,000 Nm peak torque, and 500 Nm of continuous torque. By way of comparison, think of those numbers as roughly 617 hp and 738 lb-ft. peak torque, with 369 lb.-ft. of continuous torque. AC states that the 54 kW battery pack will propel the Series 4 from 0 to 62 mph in 3.8 seconds, and take you over 200 miles on a charge.

Of course one key to EV performance is managing weight, and AC states that excess weight has been omitted to offset the new driveline. The Series 4 will weigh around 2,600 pounds, making it substantially lighter than passenger-duty EVs and in the ballpark of original big-block Cobras.

AC’s new Series 4 Electric will be available in 15 colors and priced around $226,000. Deliveries are set to begin in 2021.
