2014 Palatov D2 for sale

Having a go-kart was about the best thing possible when you were a kid. It was nothing more than wagon with an engine bolted to it, but having one elevated you to neighborhood hero and local favorite racecar driver. As you got older, the freedom of a driver’s license was the new cool thing, but nothing quite compared to the thrill of driving the go-kart. Now you’re grown up (or maybe just older), and it’s time your go-kart grew up too.

At first glance, the Palatov D2 looks like nothing more than your average exo car with some funky stealth bodywork, but dig in deeper and you’ll gain a new respect, if not a fear, of this little roadster. The D2 has two seats and weighs just 1,950 pounds. However, the real wildcard that the D2 has up its sleeve is its powerplant, the GM LS3 E-Rod engine. The GM E-Rod is a modern, reliable engine making a hearty 430 hp with 50-state emission compliance, providing benefits in the paperwork and maintenance departments. Power is sent through a Quaife 6-speed sequential gearbox tied into a full chromoly tube chassis with pushrod actuated coilover shocks front and rear.

This 2014 Palatov D2 offered for sale on eBay is a low-mile example with a few extras included. Having turned just 1,788 miles, the seller reports that the car is in great working order with some normal track day wear on the exterior. The E-Rod has received a minor tune, upping the power to around 450 hp and 460 ft-lbs. A few other touches added by the current owner are Wilwood 12.2-inch vented rotors, a brake-bias controller and a full Dailey dry sump oil system. A black set of Enkei PF01 wheels and Toyo R888 track tires look the business and clue onlookers that this exo car has a secret hiding.

The asking price on this Palatov D2 is $59,500. The value? Hard to determine with so few examples out there, but the seller claims the original cost was $80,000. While not cheap by most definitions, the D2 is basically an open-wheel racecar with a title. The D2 also incorporates that go-kart thrill in a street-legal package, allowing you to finally become that local favorite racecar driver, or at least feel like one again.
