Maserati A6GCS Replica For Sale

We recently brought you a 1954 Maserati A6GCS for $149,000 on Hemmings. So why are we bringing you another one for less than half that price today? The details are underneath the skin of this red roadster.

To recap, the A6GCS was a tubular-frame, aluminum-bodied racer with a 2.0-liter dual-overhead cam six-cylinder engine. The A6GCS enjoyed some racing success, but has its good looks to thank for its investment-grade status today. While six of these Maseratis are considered originals today, they were not all built the same. Put simply, four original A6GCS coupes were built by Pininfarina. Two had their bodywork removed and were re-bodied as Spyders for racing by Fiandri and Fantuzzi. The leftover coupe bodies were then attached to two brand new chassis, making two new coupes. While the coupe’s ultra low-slung roofline creates a more striking profile, the Spyder’s open cockpit was cooler and less noisy for drivers on the racetrack.

The Maserati A6GCS offered for sale on Craigslist in Washington is very similar to the last Maserati Spyder we brought you because, well, these cars are both from the same builder. Both feature Rover 3.5-liter aluminum V8s, Weber carburetors and high-quality interior metal work. This is number six of the seven from this builder, and is the only example to feature a brown leather interior. The seller’s ad indicates that the car is a serious performer, weighing just 1,600 pounds with a perfect 50/50 weight distribution.

With an asking price of just $60,000, you’re probably asking what’s the $89,000 difference? One thing; this car is fiberglass, while the other is aluminum. Other than body construction, these two Spyders are nearly identical. For that reason, we’ll call it an $89,000 discount on this Maserati.
